This Side Up is an investigation into the disruption of routine and comfort within the domestic sphere. This exploration has been evoked by the process of moving house and minimising accumulated belongings into a mobile home. The process of packing challenges the monetary and sentimental value of De Biasi’s belongings, as she contemplates what to discard. This series of work continues an ongoing fascination with the relationships between ready-made objects and their interaction with interior spaces. It suggests feelings of confinement and restriction through the intimate use of revived household materials and simple motifs. Although this is a time of uncertainty, (with an unknown journey ahead), De Biasi has experienced a sense of clarity and calm from clearing the clutter - disrupting the isolation of suburban life to allow a closer connection with humanity.
